You're My Melody Chapter 9: The Accident

Jaejoong couldn’t remember how many times he called her name. She was lying on the ground full of blood. He didn’t dare move her for fear that he might injure her even more. A few onlookers started to form a crowd around them. Someone must’ve called 911 for it wasn’t long before an ambulance came and took them to the hospital.

On the way to the hospital, Jaejoong kept calling her name. He held her hand in his own and whispered, “Please, Seohyun… Don’t die…” He’s terrified. He’s scared that if she stays unconscious she might not wake up again. “Open your eyes Seohyun-ah…” he ordered. When she didn’t he started cursing. “Damn it, Seohyun. Stop scaring me like this. Don’t you dare die!” Frustrated, he squeezed her hand tight and let his tears fell from his eyes.

-------

The four members of Tohoshinki are furious. They’ve been waiting for hours but there have been no sign of Jaejoong. They have to leave now or else they would be late. Yunho has been calling Jae many times already but he never picks up. When Jaejoong answered the phone at last Yunho didn’t give him a chance to speak.

“Where the heck are you, Jae? Get your ass right here this instant!”

“Sorry, Yunho. You guys have to leave without me.”

“What?! Darn it Jae. You know we can’t leave without you! Hurry up and come here. Now!”

“Yunho, please… I-I can’t explain everything right now. Please…”

Changmin grabbed the phone from Yunho. “Hyung… what’s going on?” Changmin knew something happened. Jaejoong isn’t the type who would ditch them without reason.

“I’m in a hospital. It’s Seohyun. S-she got into an accident. I can’t leave her Min. “

“What? Why? How did…?”

“I can’t explain right now. You have to leave without me. Sorry, Min.”

“Alright hyung. I’ll tell the others. Send me the name of the hospital. We will go there after the press con. Take care of yourself. And hyung…”

“What is it, min?”

“She will be fine.” No words can assure him right now but he was still grateful. He said thanks before they hang up.

It was the longest hour of Jaejoong’s life. He was waiting outside the operating room. The doctor said there’s a blood clot inside her head and they need to operate right away. Jaejoong reached for his pocket and took out Seohyun’s phone. It was broken probably due to the impact from the accident. He wanted to call her parents to inform them about the accident but it was impossible now. He just had to wait for Seohyun to wake up. She will definitely wake up. Jaejoong didn’t want to think otherwise.

-------

After the press conference, Changmin, Yoochun, Junsu and Yunho went to see Jaejoong at the hospital. Changmin already explained to the other 3 members the situation Jaejoong was in. He told them about Seohyun and how he and Jaejoong met her the other day. While at the press con, the reporters kept asking about Jaejoong and why he was not able to make it. They simply said he was not feeling well and has to stay at home to rest.

When they arrived at the hospital they saw Jaejoong sitting in a bench outside the recovery room. He looks like hell. His clothes were full of blood, his hair is a mess and his eyes looked like he had been crying. It was a surprise for the other members to see their friend like this.

“Hyung!” Junsu sat beside Jaejoong while the others stood beside him.

“You look like hell Jae.” It was Yunho. “I think you should go home and rest.”

“I can’t leave her like this.”

“You wouldn’t want Seohyun to see you like that right? You need a shower.” Changmin said. Jaejoong finally relented. He decided to take a quick shower then go back to the hospital right away.

-----

Jaejoong came back to the hospital after an hour. Seohyun was already transferred to a private room. The operation was successful and they were just waiting for Seohyun to wake up. The doctor said it might take a few days. Jaejoong stayed at the hospital the whole time and he leaves only to take a shower. The other members are being annoyed that Jaejoong keeps missing their dance rehearsals. They couldn’t understand why he was so obsessed in taking care of a girl he barely knows. Jaejoong doesn’t know either but Changmin does. His hyung is in love with Seohyun and he knew it’s only a matter of time before his hyung realizes it.

On the fourth day since Seohyun got hospitalized, Jaejoong was taking a nap beside her bed. He woke up when he felt a slight movement beside him. When he opened his eyes he saw her staring back at him. He smiled with relief. “Seohyun-ah…” “W-who are you?” she said in a hoarse voice. Jaejoong’s smile faded.

You're My Melody Chapter 8: Kiss

Jaejoong tried to drag Seohyun into another ride but she made it clear to him she’s not riding again.

“Coward.” Jaejoong teased.

“I am not!”

“Are you having fun Seohyun-ah?”

“Ne… I’m having fun. Although I also had more fright that could last me a lifetime. Please oppa… no more rides. The only ride I enjoyed is the Ferris Wheel and you ruined it.”

“Mianhae…”

To Seohyun’s surprise, Jaejoong decided to ride the Ferris Wheel again. When they were about to board the operator said, “I won’t stop it this time so you better be sure you can handle the ride” Jaejoong smiled and said, “wakatta” Seohyun had no idea what they talked about but based on the expression on their faces it’s probably like, “you liar, how dare you fooled me” and “sorry…”

Seohyun looked so happy and for Jaejoong, nothing else matters anymore. Making her happy has been his top priority ever since he met her.

“Seohyun-ah… I have to leave in a few hours. How about you? Are you leaving Tokyo soon?”
She suddenly looked so down and Jaejoong hates himself for ruining her mood. One minute she was smiling and the next she’s about to cry. She answered him with a nod. She was planning on calling his father and ask him to send someone to pick her up. She would tell him she spent all her money and she can’t afford a ticket back home and therefore her father will be forced to send someone to pick her up. That’s the only option she has right now.

“I wish you could stay in Tokyo a little bit longer.” Jaejoong said with all honesty. “You just got here yesterday right? The same time we did. Why do you have to leave so soon?”

Seohyun didn’t answer his question. She wanted to stay so bad. She wants this freedom. And then the truth struck her. No matter how far she stays away, she will never be free from his father’s grasp. She was so lost in thought until she realized Jaejoong was now close to her, too close that their lips are about to touch. She panicked. “Oppa…” she said almost inaudible. Jaejoong finally gained his wits back. He cursed himself for acting that way. “Mianhae…” He apologized. Seohyun felt disappointed. She actually wanted that kiss to happen and she hates herself for thinking that way. She knew it wasn’t right but still she couldn’t help herself from being disappointed.

They didn’t say a word to each other for a long time. They got off the ferris wheel, walked for a while, both oblivious to the crowd surrounding them. Jaejoong was the first one to break the silence.

“I have to leave.” He didn’t want to leave and Seohyun didn’t want him to leave either. However both of them knew it’s inevitable. Seohyun gave him a curt not. Jaejoong said his goodbye then walked towards the other side of the street and back to where his members are probably waiting and cursing him for making them wait.

Seohyun stared at Jaejoong’s retreating back. She thought about the kiss they almost shared a few moments ago. She can’t just let Jaejoong leave like that. If only she didn’t say anything. Jaejoong wouldn’t have stopped. All she wanted now is a kiss. Before she goes back to her miserable life she wanted to have something she could hold on to. If she wants that kiss she has to hurry before she lose sight of him for good. So she ran after Jaejoong. To her haste, she didn’t notice a speeding car and before she knew it the world went spinning in front of her eyes and the last thing she heard before everything went dark was Jaejoong’s voice calling her name.

You're My Melody Chapter 7: Amusement Park

Changmin knew Jaejoong would delete Seohyun’s number on his phone and since he’s the smart Shim Changmin he saved a duplicate copy. He checked his watch. It’s still a few hours before the performance. Jaejoong will definitely thank me for this, he thought.

---

Seohyun was at the airport and she was about to book a flight to Seoul when she received a message from changmin. She was surprised when Changmin asked for her number last night. He didn’t get in contact with her until now.

Come to universal studios.
We’ll be perfoming.
Jaejoongie hyung would be really happy to see you
-Changmin

She wanted to tell him she doesn’t want to go but she would be lying. She’s sure as hell wanted to see them perform live. Darn it she can’t go. You should go home Seohyun, she told herself. She kept repeating the same lines to herself but as she did she was already walking towards the exit.
----

She might as well die than let this chance pass. She knows it’s stupid but ever since she met Jaejoong she had been doing stupid things she never done before. She took a taxi to universal studios, bought a ticket then look for the place where Tohoshinki will be performing. She counted the money left in her wallet and she almost wept. She’s as poor as a beggar sleeping on the streets. All she had left are coins. She decided to ignore her problem at least until the performance ends. She doesn’t want her problem to ruin her mood. She was excited to see Jaejoong perform live and her heart leaped with joy, her problem momentarily forgotten.

Once she found a place to sit she sent a message to Changmin. “Oppa, I’m watching so you guys better be good. Goodluck!”

----

Jaejoong was so happy when he found out from Changmin that Seohyun is in the crowd and will be watching their performance but he didn’t dare let it show on his face. He will not give Changmin the satisfaction. Calling him Hyungnim once is enough. A few moments ago he was worried he might not catch her at the airport in time but now that she’s here all he’s worried about was how to impress Seohyun. He was happy but nervous at the same time. He can’t make mistakes now that Seohyun is watching.

---

Seohyun never expected their performance would leave her speechless. They took her breath away… literally. They sang 4 Japanese songs. Two are ballads and the other two are lively dance songs. She noticed one of the songs is an OST of a famous Japanese anime but she can’t recall the title. They were sweating hard all throughout the performance and it’s no wonder since they’ve been dancing  and jumping up and down like little kids having fun not to mention the sun is blazing hot since its almost noon. When they sang the ballad the notes were so high and when other singers might have not pulled it off well, Tohoshinki was able to sing it very well. It wasn’t perfect though. A couple of notes were a bit off but nevertheless it was the best live performance she had ever seen. Being a music lover she is, Seohyun had seen a lot of performances from musicals to concerts of both Korean and International artists. Tohoshinki’s performance is way more amazing than all those other performances. And now, she’s proud to say she’s a Dong Bang Shin Ki fan.

After the performance she wandered around the Universal Studios. Buying a ticket for Universal Studios cost her a plane ticket to Seoul. She might as well make the most out of her money. She decided Universal Studios is probably as big as Lotte World. She can’t be sure because she’s never been to Lotte World. She once asked her father permission to go with her friends but he refused. He probably doesn’t want to see a headline in the newspaper stating, “ SME CEO Lee Soo Man’s daughter plunged to her death after a roller coaster ride” or “SME CEO Lee Soo Man’s daughter got trapped in the Ferris wheel  for hours almost died from fright. “ No, he’s not scared with the thought of his daughter dying. He’s scared of seeing his name being the topic of a very bad news. Soehyun finds it hard to decide which ride she should go first. Thinking that she was about to do something that her father definitely wouldn’t approve, she smiled. She’s acting like daddy’s-bad-little-girl and she likes it.

---

Jaejoong was searching for Seohyun from the crowd of people but it was impossible. The stage where they performed is a ship almost like the Going Mary in One Piece. It’s in the middle of the sea and the audience sits a good distance from the stage. Even if the crowd is near enough he doubts he would see Seohyun due to the huge number of people who watched the performance. Still he was happy knowing that somewhere in the audience Seohyun is listening to their songs.

They have a few hours left before their press conference regarding a newly released single that they were promoting. Jaejoong decided to use those few hours searching for Seohyun.  He was planning on calling her on the phone but after a few minutes of walking among the crowd and ignoring the stares directed to him, Jaejoong realized that luck is probably on his side. He stared at the top of the Ferris Wheel and he smiled. Seohyun was sitting alone in one of those cars.

----

Seohun decided to ride the Ferris Wheel first. With the wind on her face and the great view of the world below, Seohun feels like she’s on the top of the word and the feeling of freedom overwhelms her.
Her phone rang, an unknown number flashed on the screen.

“Yes?” she asked wondering who the caller is.

“Come down here princess. You shouldn’t ride that thing alone.” Jaejoong said on the other line.

“Oppa?” Seohyun’s heart did a somersault after hearing Jaejoong’s voice. And ‘princess’? Why does he have to make her heart pound so hard by giving her nicknames. He’s really driving her crazy.

“Look down” Jaejoong commanded.

Seohyun obeyed. She searched for the person who makes her heart flutter like crazy. And there she found him looking so handsome and waving to catch her attention.  She waved back and with a grin on her face she said, “How did you find me?”

“I’m a stalker.”

“Liar.”

“Are you going to make me wait here? Jaejoong said trying to sound annoyed. “It’s so damn hot. Hurry up and get down here.”

“Shiro” Seohyun teased. “Besides, I can’t stop this thing.”

“Jump. I’ll catch you.” Jaejoong teased.

“I don’t wanna die, oppa.”

An idea came to him, “Ok, wait there.” He didn’t hang up so she waited wondering what could Jaejoong possibly been thinking.

“Sumimasen,” Jaejoong told the operator with a sense of urgency in his voice. “My sister called me saying she’s getting dizzy and she’s about to faint. Will you please stop the machine and help her come down. You see, she hates high places but she still insisted riding that thing thinking she can handle it. Please… I’m begging you..” Jaejoong spoke in Japanese and Seohyun couldn’t understand what he’s saying. Whatever it was, it definitely made the ferris wheel stop so she could get off. The other riders are getting annoyed by the interruption but Jaejoong didn’t seem to mind. He was beaming wide when she was finally on the ground.

“You ruined my ride.” Seohyun complained. She ended the call when she reached Jaejoong’s side.

“Well, hello to you too.” He said.

His smile is really contagious. She suddenly found herself grinning. “Annyeong, oppa.” She’s still wondering about what Jaejoong told the operator a while ago so she asked him, “What did you tell the operator?”

Jaejoong looked at the operator who was still staring at them with a grim expression. He’s probably annoyed thinking, Damn that guy. He fooled me. His sister looks fine. He turned his attention back to Seohyun. “I told him, ‘stop that damn thing or else I’ll blame you if my girlfriend dies from heart attack riding that thing’.”

“Girlfriend? You’re a big liar, oppa.”

Jaejoong laughed. “Common… let’s ride something more fun.”

Jaejoong’s definition of fun seemed to be different from Seohyun’s. They ride the space shuttle and Seohyun swore not to ride that thing ever again. The ride is almost like the roller coaster except that the rails are too steep. If the machine failed and the brakes didn’t work they will definitely fly up in the air, landed back down and die from the impact. Not a very good way of dying, she thought. Jaejoong told her to raise her arms up in the air and scream her heart out but she didn’t listen. She closed her eyes the whole time praying they won’t die so soon. After the ride it felt like her head had been turned upside down hundreds of times. Thankfully she didn’t throw up. It’s not a good thing to throw up in front of Jaejoong. It would have been so embarrassing. Seohyun realized one thing, amusement parks are not her thing.

You're My Melody Chapter 6: Undecided

They were back in Jaejoong’s car on their way to the hotel where she’s staying at. Jaejoong didn’t want her to leave. He told her to stay for the night since it was already late. The offer was tempting and Seohyun used all her willpower to refuse. She doesn’t want to burden them any more than she already did. Besides her problems won’t be solved unless she finds a good place to stay not just for one night but as long as she needs it.

Her birthday party was over but the happiness she feels still lingers. But now thinking that she have to go back to an empty hotel room her mood is starting to plunge down. Jaejoong didn’t say a thing the whole time they were in the car which is strange. He doesn’t seem to be the kind who would keep his mouth shut for long. They were in the lobby when she said her goodbye.

“I will see you again, right?” he said, the first words he said to her since they left the dorm.

She thought about the possibility of meeting him again. Probably in SME just like the first time. Or it could be anywhere. “Yeah, I guess …” she said hoping it’s true.

Jaejoong smiled. “Jal ja yo…”

“Na do jal ja..” she said. She turned to leave while Jaejoong waited until she was out of sight before getting back in the car. He stayed inside the car for a couple of minutes before he made up his mind and went back to the hotel lobby.

“Sumimasen…” he said to the receptionist at the front desk.

“May I help you sir?” she asked.

“The girl I was with a few moments ago. Lee Seohyun. Do you happen to know how long she’s planning to stay here?”

“Sorry sir but I’m not allowed to give away that kind of information.”

“Please… It’s really important. Onegaishimasu.”

Shi hesitated a bit but eventually agreed. “Alright sir. Chotto matte kudasai.” Jaejoong wasn’t sure what made her agree but he was happy she did.

“She made reservations for a one night stay. Miss Lee didn’t inform us of any plans of extending her stay.”

“Ah, sou desu ka?” his disappointment must’ve been obvious because the receptionist gave her a look that said “sorry to disappoint you”.  “What time will she be checking out?”

“Around noon sir”. Seohyun said she can’t stay long. If she’s checking out at noon then she must have been planning to go back to Seoul by then. Their performance tomorrow is around 10am. If he hurry he might catch her at the airport. Why he’s been taking all those efforts to see her before she leaves to Seoul, he has no idea. All he knows is he wanted to see her again and he’s determined to do just that.

He smiled to the receptionist. “Arigatou Gozaimasu.”

--------

“What’s wrong with Jaejoong hyung?” junsu asked changmin worriedly. “He’s been staring at his watch every now and then and he seemed anxious about something.”

“Is he worried about the performance?” Junsu asked. They are about to enter the stage in 30 mins. Junsu and changmin had been playing games while Jaejoong stays at the corner checking the time once in a while. Yunho and Yoochun are still in the dressing room with the stylist. “I’ve never seen jaejoong hyung this worried before because of a performance.”

Changmin looked at Jaejoong and smirked. “He’s fine. Don’t mind him.”

“He doesn’t seem fine. I’ll talk to him.” Junsu said but before he could stand Changmin stopped him. “I’ll do it.”

Changmin sat next to jaejoong. “hyung, gwenchana?”

“Hmmm.” Jajeoong replied but Changmin knew better. He smiled and pick up his phone, pressed some buttons and gave it to jaejoong. Jaejoong  looked at the phone surprised.

“You don’t have to thank me hyung.” Changmin said with a grin on his face.

“Aniyo. I’m not planning to thank you.” He coppied the number on his own phone. Deleted the number in Changmin’s phone before returning it.

“Ya~ hyung~ Hajima!” Changmin protested but it was too late. Jaejoong already removed Seohyun’s number. “Aish. Chincha…” he said annoyed.

Jaejoong smiled. He doesn’t like Changmin hitting on Seohyun. It’s obvious Changmin likes her. He even took the chance to get her number. They’ve just met last night and he already got her number. He kept thinking whether they already talked on the phone or if they exchanged emails. Somehow the thought makes jaejoong so mad and he doesn’t exactly understand why.

“Aren’t you going to call her?” Changmin asked when he saw jaejoong keeping his phone on his pocket instead of dialing Seohyun’s number.

“Eh? A-aniyo. Why should I?”

“Molla… I just thought you want to talk to her. You’re not yourself since this morning and Junsu hyung is worried.”

“Mind your own business Changmin.”

“Shiro.” Changmin smirked. “Give me your phone. I’ll call her.”

“Get lost chagmin.”

“Common hyung… You’re so obvious. You like her don’t you? Anyway, I already sent her an email telling her to come and watch our performance.”

That surprised jaejoong. “Jeongmal??”

Changmin laughed. It was a lie of course. “Ani. I did not. I haven’t called her or even sent her an email. You can relax now.”

“Changmin-ah~ If you do not get out of my sight soon I think I might kill you.”

“Ok. I’ll go. But hyung, don’t worry. I know she’s off limits. I just asked for her number last night because I know you’ll be too stupid to ask for it yourself.” Changmin said before standing up to leave.

“Geurae. Babo da.” Jaejoong agreed and smiled. “Changmin-ah~” he called before changmin left. “Gomawo~”

“I thought you’re not going to thank me.”

“I changed my mind.”

Changmin smiled. “Call her. Don’t waste my efforts.”

“Ne, hyungnim.” Changmin’s lips formed a satisfied smile.

-----

Seohyun left the hotel earlier than she’s supposed to. She is still not sure what to do. The few money left in her wallet enough only for one plane ticket to Korea left her no choice but to go home. She sighed hard. With heavy heart she forced herself to pack and leave the hotel. She walked for a bit hoping a little walk would clear her mind. She wanted to see Jaejoong so much. She wanted to stay so bad.

Last night, Seohyun noticed for the first time how the moon could be so wonderful. She never thought she could feel so warm despite the chill the evening breeze brings. Jaejoong made her feel things she never thought possible. The fast beating of her heart like it will burst out of her ribcage, her cheeks growing warm everytime she caught Jaejoong staring at her – which happened a lot, her lips forming into a smile making her feel like a total idiot smiling for nothing. It all seemed like a dream. She smiled with the thought.

However, all those memories seem so long ago. And now she has to come back to Korea… to reality. Her smile faded.

She hailed a taxi and instructed the driver to take her to Narita International Airport. She’s going back to Seoul because it seems like it’s the right thing to do. Besides she doesn’t have much choice. She has to leave before she changed her mind.

You're My Melody PROLOGUE

She woke up with the sound of someone singing. It was so beautiful that she even thought she was still dreaming. She refused to open her eyes hoping drowsiness would overwhelm her once again. It was always the same every morning. She finds it hard to wake up knowing that she has to face her boring life again.

However, to her surprise today seemed to be different. The music kept penetrating her half-conscious mind until she became fully awake. She could hear a faint sound of someone playing the piano and singing along at the same time. After a while, she finally decided to open her eyes. She was not in her own bedroom, she realized. Everything that had happened these past few days came rushing back through her mind.

Compared to her usually boring life today is indeed different. Then she smiled.
